PhD - Graphene Nanotechnology( Ref:1198161 )

UCL Department / DivisionLondon Centre for NanotechnologyVacancy Information
A PhD programme at the London Centre for Nanotechnology (LCN) at University College London (UCL), in conjunction with Applied Scintillation Technologies (AST) Ltd

This AST sponsored UCL PhD programme will explore the electrical and optical properties of graphene, and consider a range of applications that are emerging for this new carbon material. Of particular interest will be the way that the substrate that must support monolayer graphene influences its electrical properties, and methods for CVD growth of graphene directly onto useful substrates, rather than transferring the material from a growth to a host surface. In both these contexts, graphene-on-diamond and ‘diamond-like’ surfaces will be explored.
Studentship DescriptionThe project will be experimental involving both laboratory work and clean-room device processing. Around one-month a year will be spent at AST based at Harlow, Essex. Person SpecificationThe successful applicant will have, or shortly hold, at least an upper second class degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science or similar.EligibilityThe successful applicant must be eligible for home fees (EU status). In the first instance. Applications in the form of a CV should be made to Professor Richard B.
